Language Learning Daily Practice
A conversation partner, grammar coach, and vocabulary builder in one tool.
AI is one of the best language practice tools available — infinitely patient, available at 3am, and able to adjust its level in real time. This workflow builds a daily practice routine using AI as your primary conversation partner.
The Workflow
Set up your language practice session
Start each session by giving AI your current level, what you practiced last time, and what you want to work on today.
You are my [TARGET_LANGUAGE] language tutor. Let's practice today. My current level: [PROFICIENCY_LEVEL] (e.g., A2 / intermediate / conversational but rusty) I last practiced: [LAST_TOPIC] Today I want to work on: [TODAYS_FOCUS] (e.g., past tense / ordering food / business vocabulary / casual conversation) Weak areas I know I have: [KNOWN_WEAKNESSES] Rules for our session: - Conduct the session primarily in [TARGET_LANGUAGE] — switch to [NATIVE_LANGUAGE] only to explain grammar rules I can't work out from context - Correct my mistakes but let me finish my thought first - After each correction, ask me to try the sentence again correctly - At the end of the session, give me a summary of errors I made more than once Ready? Start by asking me a question in [TARGET_LANGUAGE] about [TODAYS_FOCUS].
Replace: [TARGET_LANGUAGE], [PROFICIENCY_LEVEL], [LAST_TOPIC], [TODAYS_FOCUS], [KNOWN_WEAKNESSES], [NATIVE_LANGUAGE]
Vocabulary building from real contexts
Build vocabulary from content you're actually consuming in the target language.
I encountered these words or phrases in [TARGET_LANGUAGE] and I don't fully understand them: [WORD_OR_PHRASE_LIST] For each word or phrase: 1. Definition in plain [NATIVE_LANGUAGE] 2. The register (formal / informal / slang / archaic) 3. Two or three example sentences showing different uses 4. A similar word it's often confused with, and how to tell them apart 5. A memory hook to help me remember it Then create five practice sentences I can complete using these new words. Give me the beginning of each sentence and let me fill in the target word.
Replace: [TARGET_LANGUAGE], [WORD_OR_PHRASE_LIST], [NATIVE_LANGUAGE]
Role-play real scenarios
Practice specific real-world situations you actually need the language for.
Let's practice a specific real-world scenario in [TARGET_LANGUAGE]. The scenario: [SCENARIO] (e.g., making a doctor's appointment / negotiating a price at a market / asking for directions and following them / complaining about a hotel room) My goal: to be able to handle this scenario comfortably without reverting to [NATIVE_LANGUAGE] Play the other person in the scenario. Start the conversation. After the role-play: 1. Give me a score on vocabulary, grammar, and naturalness (1-10 each) 2. Highlight two phrases I used that sounded natural 3. Give me three phrases a native speaker would use that I didn't
Replace: [TARGET_LANGUAGE], [SCENARIO], [NATIVE_LANGUAGE]
All Prompts for This Workflow
You are my [TARGET_LANGUAGE] tutor. My level: [PROFICIENCY_LEVEL]. Today I want to work on [TODAYS_FOCUS]. Conduct the session in [TARGET_LANGUAGE]. Correct mistakes after I finish my thought, then ask me to redo the sentence. Summarize repeated errors at the end. Start by asking me a question about [TODAYS_FOCUS].
Replace: [TARGET_LANGUAGE], [PROFICIENCY_LEVEL], [TODAYS_FOCUS]
Here is a piece of writing I produced in [TARGET_LANGUAGE]: [MY_WRITING] Please: 1. Correct every error and explain each correction in [NATIVE_LANGUAGE] 2. Identify which error type appears most frequently (this is my pattern to work on) 3. Explain the underlying grammar rule for my most common error 4. Give me five practice sentences targeting that specific rule
Replace: [TARGET_LANGUAGE], [MY_WRITING], [NATIVE_LANGUAGE]
Let's role-play this scenario in [TARGET_LANGUAGE]: [SCENARIO] Play the other person. Start the conversation. After the role-play, score me on vocabulary, grammar, and naturalness (1-10 each). Highlight two phrases I used that sounded natural. Give three phrases a native speaker would use that I didn't.
Replace: [TARGET_LANGUAGE], [SCENARIO]
A full practice session with real conversation in the target language, correction of grammar errors with explanations, vocabulary building with context and memory hooks, and a session summary of patterns to practice.
- →Don't correct the AI's role — it knows what it's doing. Stay in character in the target language even when it's uncomfortable.
- →Ask for the session summary in a format you can paste into a vocabulary notebook or Anki deck.
