You do not need to understand AI to start using it
If you have never opened a chatbot — or you opened one once, typed “hello”, and closed it again — this page is for you. No jargon, no setup. Twenty minutes, three steps, starting now.
Your first 20 minutes
Do these in order. Step one is a decision, step two is real work, step three is the habit that keeps you out of trouble.
Pick ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. All three have a free tier, and for everything you are about to do today the differences between them do not matter. Choosing is the only decision you need to make right now.
Most people open a chatbot and try to catch it out. Skip that. Hand it something already on your list — a reply you are dreading, a concept you half understand, a week of dinners — and talk to it like a capable new colleague.
AI is fluent whether or not it is correct, and confident-and-wrong reads exactly like confident-and-right. Before you send, spend five minutes asking which parts are checkable — and then check them.
Then read one module — this one
After twenty minutes of hands-on use you will have questions. This module answers the ones that actually matter first: what AI is good at, where it quietly fails, and how to work with it without either trusting it blindly or dismissing it.
Treat AI as a capable junior assistant rather than an oracle, get comfortable experimenting when the first answer is wrong, and learn to recognise the jobs AI is the wrong tool for. It is the shortest route from “I tried it” to “I know what I am doing”.
Not sure where to start?
Answer a short set of questions about your work, your comfort level, and what you are actually trying to get done. You get a recommended starting point and a path through the material, instead of a menu to guess from.
Three prompts to try today
Pulled from the beginner end of the curated library. Copy one, fill in the bracketed parts with your own details, and paste it in. The bracketed parts are the whole trick — the same prompt with your specifics beats a clever prompt with none.
Turn a random assortment of groceries into a realistic week of meals without another shopping trip.
Understand something difficult by seeing it explained simply, then properly, then precisely.
Find out which parts of an AI answer are solid and which parts might be invented before acting on any of it.
One warning worth having before you paste anything: do not put information into a chatbot that you would not put in an email to a stranger. No passwords, no card numbers, no client files, nothing about someone else’s health or money. Everything on this page works fine without any of that.
That is the first twenty minutes. Here is the rest.
Learn is the full path: modules in order, guides for specific jobs, and workshops when you want to build something. You now know enough to pick where to go next.
